Located along the Red River in Northwestern, Louisiana is the oldest European permanent settlement in the 1803 Louisiana Purchase. Founded in 1714 by a French-Canadian solider and explorer Louis Antoine Juchereau de St. Denis and named after the Natchitoches Native American tribe who were important allies of the French in both 17th and 18th century.
